Abstract
The selection of appropriate antibiotics is very important in surgical field since it should be sensitive to the infecting organism, be minimal in toxicity or side effect, and be convenient in practical use.
Systemic administration of Sulperazon was performed against infection in 52 patients who were admitted and operated in the Dept. of Surgery, St. Mary¢¥s Hospital from October, 1988 to March, 1989.
The results were as follows:
1. Among 52 cases, there were 3 cases of sepsis, 13 cases of biliary tract infection, 10case¢¥s
of acute appendicitis, 14 cases of panperitonitis due to intestinal perforation, 6 ca ? of wound infection- and 6 cases of other surgical disease.
2. The overall effectiveness has been shown satisfactory after administration of Superaz on with results which were excellent in 82.6%(43 cases) of the cases, good in 7% and fair in 7%.
3. The side effects were noted on 3 cases: 2 cases of rash and 1 case of diarrhea. These were reversible.
4. Bacteriologically, isolated strains were E. coli in 26 cases, 8-hemolytic streptococc in 7 cases, Pe¢¥udomonas aeruginosa in 7 cases, Staphylococcus aureus in 6 cases and Citrobactor, Klebsiella, Enterobactor cloacae and Serratia in remaining 6 cases.
5. The strians were eradicated by administration of Sulperazon for 1 week except 5 4 - e¢¥s which were infected with Pe¢¥udomonas aeruginosa and Serratia.
